Netbook Reflection Term 4

As much as I have loved having a Netbook there are some things that I haven’t liked. Like trying to connect to the Internet.

The hardest thing for me on my netbook is stop getting distracted. Most of the time I am doing my work but some times I really get distracted. I think I have been Cyber Smart!

If the Netbook Scheme failed and our netbooks got taken away from us we would be very disappointed. If my Netbook got taken away from me I would find my work much harder.

Saturn Solutions

In Saturn there is no air. Humans need air to live. Its obvious you wouldn’t survive in Saturn.

Solution 1- (No air) I would connect straws all the way from Earth to Saturn. Once its done I will be able to breathe!!! YAY!!!

Solution 2- I would bring a box with me filled with big trees, and planet them into the ground. So I can breath nice fresh air.

Solution 3- Since Saturn has no air, I will go to Earth and bring a long pipe. Just like a vacuum cleaner. Then I will bring the big pipe to Saturn, and then it will get some air in Earth a give some to Saturn. So people can breath the air just like Earth.

Best solution: Solution number 3
Since Saturn has no air, I will go all the way to Earth and bring a long pipe. The long pipe is just like a vacuum cleaner. Then I will bring the pipe to Saturn and one side on Earth, then the big pipe will bring some air to Saturn from Earth. So when people want to go to Saturn they can breath the fresh air just like Earth.

Making our own air will be hard but its worth living in Saturn.

King Kong And Slug

Stupid King Kong knowingly embarrassed his friend.

Knowingly embarrassing stupid King Kong, Mr Monkey pulled down his pants.

King Kong was stupid to say, he knowingly embarrassed himself.

Creepy slugs unfortunately attempted to eat my brother.

Unfortunately attempting to kill the cat, the creepy slugs died.

Attempting to unfortunately to climb the sky tower, the creepy slug fell and left a goey mess.

Running down the mountain the creepy slugs unfortunately attempted to climb back up.

One Tree Hill

Running down the hill the wind blew my hair. Soon I reached the bottom. “Yay I made it” I shouted as I avoided the rocks and poo! Tumbling and giggling, all my friends came rolling down. Would my friends land on rocks? Slowly walking away to the Stardome. Hooray!!!

Ice Cream Comits

My fingers were numb as I rolled the ice cream and sprinkles around in my hands. Room 13 had made yummy ice cream comets made of crushed biscuits, chocolate ice cream and sprinkles.

Waiting in line, I wondered what it would feel like. As Miss King scooped the ice cream in my hands it fell through my fingers. The comet felt like a cold and squishy ball rolling around in my hands. “YUCK”. “Its freezing” I said as Whaea Janeille put a cone on my comet.

Licking my lips, I was eager to eat my comet. The ice cream dripped out and covered the ground. These ice cream comets were delicious!

Making the comets was a fun and sticky experience. I hope we can make them again.

Alien Snot

Yuck, slimy and gooey alien snot running down my hands. In our class room we made icky sticky alien snot.

If you are interested in make this goopy alien snot you will need a bowl, a spoon, cornflour, water and green food colouring. Firstly pore the cornflour and water in the bowl and mix. Then pour the green food colouring and mix. Then the mixture will harden.

Mixing the cornflour and water together the mixture had hardened quickly. After mixing Miss King put in some green food colouring in my groups bowl. The mixture change from white to green.

“YUCK” we all said as we grabbed some snot from the bowl. It felt slimy when it ran down my hand. I wonder if alien snot is really slimy.

Making alien snot was a fun experience. I hope to make Alien snot again.

Lift Off

Bright intense flames from the rocket lit up the night sky. Sweat fell from my head as I was ready to launch. I have been an astronaut for 5 years and now I finally get to go to space!

Preparing to launch I was filled with nervous excitement. Ignition came to the call and I felt my tummy shudder. “Hold on tight” I whispered to myself.

Cutting through the sky smoke came out of my rockets boosters. A trail of smoke was left behind as I was finally in space.

I enjoyed my adventure in space!!!

Immersion Assembly

From Immersion Assembly Term 4 2011

Sitting in the hall I waited for assembly to start. Finally the time had come - Mr Burt
raced out of the doors and told us what our topic for the term is. I couldn't wait to find out! “ The topic for term 4 is Outta This World”. Mr Burt said.

Mr Burt told us by telling us a story. The story was how Maui fished up New Zealand from the sea. Maui used the constellation of the stars to get him from Hawaii to New Zealand.

All the teams showed a performance or a movie that had to be about space, they all were really cool. But my Favorite team of all was team 4. Their performance was so funny. The teachers danced to Twinkle Twinkle and were dressed up like ballerinas.

I really enjoyed this Immersion Assembly. I am really looking forward to learning more about this topic.

My Reflection Of The Term

What did I enjoy?
I enjoyed playing in the A.F.L tournament. Because it was real run and I liked playing in that team and we have really good players.

Things I didn’t enjoy?
I didn’t enjoy cross country. Because it is boring and we the track is really long and tiering.

What did I learn?
I learnt lots of great things . I learnt how to make buttons on Hyperstudio.

How do I feel about my term overall?
I feel amazed at all the activity we had done this whole term like, badminton, netball and Aussie rules they have been a great experience for me.

What did I find most interesting ?
I found badminton really really interesting because it was my first time and we could challenge people and every week we learnt new skills.

What could I have done to help my learning?
I recon I can help my learning by concentrating on my work. I think that my learning can improve by listening and working hard. I need to find a way to work harder at my maths.

The Missing Cat - Part 1

Abagail and John sat in there bedroom thinking about what to do for there Mothers birthday. They were very poor children and hardly had any money so they had trouble deciding what to buy her.

“Ohh, I know”, cried the youngest, Abagail, jumping off her bed. “What?” asked John lazily. “We could take her on a holiday” replied Abagail leaping up and down. “Forget it Abagail we will never have enough money”.

The next morning Abagail and John got up, quickly got dressed, had breakfast and went out side to play. It was Saturday and they did not have to worry about going to school, they could play all day long. They sat in the yard and made cards for there mothers birthday.

“Now all we need is a present to go with our cards,”sighed John. “Yes” Abagail agreed. “Let’s go round to Sally's house”, suggested John, “Mother’s going out on an errand so she won’t need us, and Sally’s sure to have some good ideas of what we can do for Mother’s birthday.” So the two children skipped over to their friends house.

When they arrived at Sally’s her Mother answered the door. “ Could we please see Sally” John asked politely. “I’m sorry but Sally is sick today” Sally’s Mum sadly replied. “That’s alright”, John said, “we’ll come by another time when she is feeling better.”

“Oh dear,” moaned Abagail, “how will we ever get anything for Mother?” “We’ll cope”, muttered John as they started off towards home. As they walked down an alley way leading to the main street a poster fluttered down the alley way towards John. He picked and looked at it.

“MISSING CAT,” the poster said,” whoever finds a Siamese cat with blue eyes and soft white and brown fur, (like this picture below), please return it to Vet A. J . You will then get rewarded with $2,000.” John look up from the poster his eyes shining. “ That is how much money we need to Mum on holiday” cried Abagail as she looked over John’s shoulder and read the poster. “ We MUST find that cat” John exlaimed.

Sonny Bill Williams

Bravely awaiting for the match to start Sonny Bill got himself organised in the dressing room. He planned his scheme and waited for the time to come. The All Blacks had just got on the field as the crowd roared Sonny Bill’s name.

Anxiously running to the try line, Sonny Bill Williams gave a burst of speed. Gliding on the field Sonny Bill dived for a try. He had just proven himself a great player. The crowd cheered loud like lightning “SBW, SBW, SBW!!!”

It was a challenging game but the All Blacks won!!! Victory was in the All Blacks hands.

Warriors vs Manly Sea Eagles

Congratulation's to the Warriors for making it to the grand finals!!!!! New Zealand is very very proud.

Last night the almighty NZ Warriors played the Manly Sea Eagles. They played in Australia, Sydney. Manu Vatuvai burst through the defence and scored the first try for the awesome Warriors.

I felt really disappointed that the Warriors lost!!! But they sadly lost against the winning team Manly Sea Eagles. The Warriors played a good game though.

I hope the Warriors can play again in the Grand Finals and win to lift that trophy!!!

Making Alfajorcitos

YUM! ALFAJORCITOS ARE THE BEST!!! On Thursday Rm 13 made tasty Alfajorcitos.

Alfajorcitos are biscuits smothered in dulce de leche which is kind of like caramel. They are popular in Argentina. First get two plain biscuits, spread the caramel on to the biscuits and roll the biscuits on coconut.

Licking my lips and fingers, the icky and runny dulce de leche dripped out the sides and into my mouth! I was so greedy that I wanted some more.

I had really enjoyed eating my Alfajorcito. I hope we can make them agian!!! Alfajorcitos are now my favourite Argentinian treat.

Aussie Rules

Nothing is more fun than Aussie Rules!!! Every Thursday Rooms 13 and 19 go to the bottom field to learn the Aussie Rules way of playing rugby.

The weather was rough. It was very changable, first wind, then sun, then rain. Who knows what the weather might be like next!

For our warm up we played a game called Bumper Jumper. You had to find a partner and try to knock each other over while hopping on one foot. After the warm up game it was time to learn a skill. The skill we learnt was how to bounce the ball while running.

Next we played a game which was like baseball except we had to kick a ball off a tee instead of batting a ball. I waited impatiently for my turn and when my turn was over I was panting for breath! Fielding was fun to, but I liked the kicking best.

When the day was finally over I felt exhausted, but very happy. I cant wait untill next week!!!

Black Out Day

It was with huge excitement that I got dressed for school today. Today at school we were going to have a Black Out Day to show our support for the All Blacks.

As I ran down the footpath I saw my friend. She ran to join me. Coins jingled in my pocket as I bounced about excitedly. I was going to buy a sausage for my lunch.

Arriving at school I noticed that even the teachers were wearing black. Miss Tito and Miss Va’afusuaga had black wigs on and even had some face paint! I love it when our whole school gets behind an idea.

At assembly Mr Burt kept telling funny stories. They were about the times when he had gone to the rugby games without his hat and got food stuck in his hair! I laughed and laughed, Mr Burt is a great storyteller.

After assembly we made some All Black players. We to get into groups of 5 then trace the smallest person in our group. After we had done that we had to draw on the uniform of the All Blacks.

My group was the first finished. Miss King let us go into the bay and paint our person. We talked as we worked and when we were finished painting we were covered in paint! As I washed my hands the bell rang. It was time for morning tea.

When morning tea was finished I rushed onto the field, we were going to play some with the 7s boys. Lots of other classes were there so it was a bit tricky getting into our teams without bumping into someone. But finally we were all in our teams.

I went to play touch with Tanielu. But the girls in my team were not good at playing touch so me played midnight instead. After game time was finished I was all hot and sweaty but I had a great time.

At lunch time I bought my sausage and sat with my friends under a shady tree. I felt all lazy and spent my most of my lunch time talking with my friends under the tree. When the bell rang I stood up and walked slowly class. I wondered what we were going to do next.

It was a great afternoon and we got to pick what we wanted to do. At the end of school I felt a bit sad because it had been a wonderful. But I was looking forward to watching the game tonight

I had such a great black out day and I really hope that the All Blacks can win tonight. My brother is supporting Tonga, but I still think that the All Blacks will win.

Cross Country

Its Cross Country today and this year it is a new and longer track. I can't believe how the long the track is. Shivers ran up my spine as I waited for Mr Burt to say GO.

"How much longer till the race starts?" I asked Mr Marks. "About 2 minutes", he replied. I was so scared and I felt like my heart was about to escape out of my chest.
I was taken by surprise when Mr Burt said "GO" but I didn't waste any time. I put on a burst of speed and I realized I was in the lead with 4 more people. I felt extremely proud.

During the end of the race my feet were almost killing me. I was so exaushted and my lungs were screaming. Finally I saw the finish line putting on a slight burst of speed I crossed the Finish line.

At the end of the day I was proud of myself because I came 4th. Im so glad Cross Country is over.

The Haka

Passionate about their Haka the warriors frightened South Africa as they were about to battle. South Africa was intimidated by their strong and powerful fierce war cries. The All Blacks threatened them with their throat slitting action.

Piercing screams were heard by the crowd as the All Blacks were feared by South Africa. Shouts and screams of the All Blacks were petrified the Spring Boxes. Preparing to battle South Africa froze with fear because of the Haka Actions!

Badminton

Badminton in the school hall is so ENJOYABLE!!! I love going to the hall to learn about badminton because it’s AMAZING!!

Donna our instructor showed us 3 grips. Underarm, forehand, and a trick shot. Using those grips I powerfully hit the shuttle with my racket and of it went to my partner.

Donna then taught us how to hold the racket. Once our whole class learnt how to hold the racket. We then went on to learn about the overhead grip.

I held the shuttle in my hand and accurately served at my partners head! Soaring like a bird the shuttle flew back and forth between my partner and I. My partner hit the shuttle back to me, and Donna shouted “shuttles”.

I cant wait to go back and learn some more about badminton!

Healthy Food

When you’re a kid you have to eat healthy foods. Children need five serves of carbohydrates a day, two servings of fruit and three servings of vegetables. Don’t forget the dairy products and meat too!

Fats and sugars are needed in our diet too, but only eaten in moderation. Juices and fizzy drinks are treats. The best drinks for kids are water and milk.

Now you know how to eat healthy!!!

Kiwiana

Ki ora, and welcome to New Zealand. We live in an isolated country which is a home to many different cultures. It is a very unique country and our kiwiana is very special to us.

The Buzzy Bee is a famous icon to New Zealand. A toy and crafts man, created the colorful wood toy sometime in the late 1930’s. New Zealanders love Buzzy Bee. It is seen internationally on stamps and magazine covers. As you can see Buzzy Bee is a treasure to lots of people in New Zealand.

Do you actually know what a tiki is? I’m guessing not. The
term tiki refers to a carved human figure and is part of Maori and
other pacific culture. It is a famous New Zealand icon.

We are very proud of our culutral country and our kiwiana. New Zealand has become more than we have hoped for and we are happy to share our country’s kiwiana with you.

Jonah Lomu

A Rugby Union player called Jonah Lomu played 63 games as an All Black after debuting for the All Blacks in1994. He was massive ,but fast. Jonah Lomu is thought of the first global superstar, he was a very intimidating player.

Sadly Jonah Lomu had kidney problems. He had dialysis in 2003 because of his kidney problem. Because of his dialysis he couldn’t play rugby for the All Blacks. Grant Kereama donated one of his kidneys. Jonah Lomu was able to play rugby again.

He then went on to play in Wales and Hong Kong before finally retiring in 2007.

William Webb Ellis

The game of football was played by a school called Rugby School. Hundreds of players were able to take part in this game because there was no fixed limit to the number of players. Major injures were caused by this game. They were permitted to handle the ball, but they were not able to move with it.
In 1823 William Web Ellis ran with the ball to the opposition’s goal. This innovation of running with the ball meant the game of Rugby was introduced sometime between 1859-1865.

Beep Test

“First up are the girls” Miss V said. We got up from the ground and made our way to the yellow line. Waiting for the test to begin I got myself ready. “Breathe in and out!” I whispered to myself trying to save my energy. Soon a voice called out from sound system. “ Level 01.01” it called. Jogging towards the cones, I was able to get there in time. “BEEP!” went the speakers. I ran to the other yellow line hopping I wouldn't get out.

Out of all the levels I got 10.05

Technology Project

As part as this terms topic 'Bigger,Better,Faster,Stronger' Miss King has asked us to make something better at our school. Jordenne, Thea and I chose to get blinds for our classroom because the sun shines on our touch screen.

So we have thought of having a disco and mufti to fundraise for new blinds for our classroom. Our small group have spent a lot of our time working on it and we hope it all runs smoothly. We also hope to get the mount of money we need.

Here is our movie we made to advertise our disco.

My Artwork

As part of our artwork this term Room 13 have done a 3-D piece of art. First we had to draw 8 dots across a page, then we had to draw arks up from the dots and after working for a few days we had filled the page with arks. The next step was doing vivid over the arks, which we had done in pencil, and coloring. We had to color in dark around the outside of the arks and light in the middle blending it togerther to create a 3-D effect.

This is my artwork, hope you like it.

After looking at some inventions we went outside to explore the exhibits. First we had a look at the OLD inventions with my mum. Me my friends and my mum saw lots of things like, old trains, old washing machines and old telephones.

My FAVOURITE part of the Motat trip was going into the Tactile Dome, my class mates were really looking forward to it. We finally reached our destination. While in the dome I was scared but I was with my friends so I was alright. “Yay we made it through the dome” said my friends as we climbed out of the Dome.

Mr and Mrs Twit felt the glue “ What was that?” asked Mrs Twit. Meanwhile, lots and lot and of birds were in their house. They were in the house sticking all the furniture upside down! Hairy Mr Twit and dirty Mrs Twit walked back to their house, then..........

The Twits walked into the house and together screamed “Why are we on the celling”? Let’s stand on our heads so that we’ll be the right way up” Mr Twit instructed. As the Twits stood on their heads, they realised they were stuck. Sadly this was the end of Mr Twit and Mrs Twit - they shrunk!!! The end.

Swimming

Free time was my favourite part of swimming because we got to play with everyone. I think my swimming is much better than last year.

The BFG

Sophie and the BFG stood in the BFG’s big cave. Lights and patterns covered the wall. “Would you like some Frobscottle?” asked the BFG, as he walked over to one corner of the cave. Sophie was worried, she didn’t want to try some but she was thirsty “Yes maybe a little bit” Sophie exclaimed.

The BFG put the Frobscottle on the table were Sophie was standing and said “This is the most scrumdidliumptious drink ever”. He was worried that maybe she wouldn't try it. Looking at the BFG, Sophie said “why do the bubbles go down, not up” Before he answered she cautiously took a little sip of the Frobscottle.

“Yay our movies showing” I exclaimed, Charlie from What Now was there he called out the finalists movies. We watched the movies of the finalists and the winner was called out. “ Don't Forget Our Roots by Pt England School”.

“YAY” we all shouted as we run to the red carpet and ran down to the stage. Charlie high fived our hands. The speech finished, so everyone walked back to their seats and watched more movies.

Camera

In 1886 a man in France took the very first snapshot/photograph. He used a metal plate covered with bitumen.

12 Years later a man named Jacques Daguerre improved the idea of a camera by using a copper plate coated with silver, instead of a metal plate covered with bitumen. Jacques Daguerre made his camera’s lens work like a telescope.

In 1888 George Eastman made a small hand held camera, using celluloid film. In 1990 a box camera called “ the Brownie “ was invented by the Eastman Kodak Company. From 1920 -1940 better cameras were made with expensive lens in Germany. Now most cameras are made in Japan.

Pt England Resort

The Pt England Resort is the best place I’ve ever been!!!! In my apartment there was a water bed facing a flat screen TV. Also there’s was a deck that had a great view, you could see the BEAUTIFUL water. Most mornings you get breakfast in bed as well.

Activates like snorkeling , surfing, kayaking and swimming are amazing because the sea is warm and clear. Best of all was snorkeling because I saw beautiful fish. Angel fish, Goldfish and Starfish filled the sea, my favourite was the dolphin because I got to ride on them. The resort was AMAZING !!!!! I didn't want to go home.

Egg Drop

20 minutes you've got to be joking, that was a very short time. How is this going to work ? We all got our supplies and set of to work.

Cut cut , chatter chatter, tape tape. Everyone worked to the last second.

20 Minutes was over. As I dropped the egg I knew this wouldn't work. SPLAT !!! My prediction came true.

Adding Detail To Sentences

Room 13 have been learning how to write a GREAT story by adding detail to sentences. Here is some of me and my partners work.

The inventor invented a spaceship.
Who invented the spaceship.
The monkey gathered the tools to invent a spaceship.

The inventor invented a spaceship to go to the moon.
Who invented the spaceship? The monkey called Kashya.
The monkey gathered the tools to invent a spaceship to help him turn the moon into a shape.

Netball

“ My first netball game “ I said nervously myself. The yr 4 Netball team got ready. “ Kashya your goal attack “ Mr Jacobsen said to me as he gave me a bib. Then we left, Mrs J and Mr jacobsen drove us to the Netball court.

The game started I stood on the line waiting for the ball. The whistle blew, I got the ball and through it to my team mate. “ Pass the ball “ she said. I was next to the hoop so I shot the ball in the hoop. “ Yay “ I shouted and I gave the ball over to the other team.

It was half time I quickly gave my bib to Mr jacobsen. On second half I was Goal Shot ! The ball went from Center to Goal attack, I had the ball and shot it in the hoop. The game was finished. Mr Jacobsen told us the score. “ 13 - 4 “ Mr Jacobsen said. “ Yay “ My Friends said as we walked to the changing rooms.
